The Competition

Our services haven't been taken by everyone we've met -we'd be retired by now if they had! So, we thought we'd share with you the details of our main competitors, and see if you can identify with any of them.

Competitor #1
APATHY: 'Seems good, I should look at it, I know my backups are ropey but I've been busy,'

Sound familiar? Our best clients are people who 'hadn't got round to it'

Then it happened - computer stolen, hard drive crashed. Fire. Flood.

NOW they find out their backups are useless. (Industry statistics suggest that up to 50% of tape backups are unsuccessful.)

NOW they discover what happens when critical data is lost. Letters, contracts, invoices, tax information, client details.. hours, days, weeks, picking up the pieces.
Loss of business, loss of credibility.

COMPLACENCY: 'We already back up, and we haven't had a problem'

'OK - how did your last restore go?'

'Pardon?'

'Well, presumably you test the backup to make sure it works?'

'er.. I'm sure we would be OK'

If it isn't tested, regularly, you have no way of knowing if it will work, at the critical moment when your business is dependent on it. And if it doesn't, you may as well not have bothered. Like cheap insurance, if it doesn't pay out when you need it, its no insurance at all.

And you will your backup - eventually. A computer hard drive is a mechanical device. Like cars, washing machines, VCRs, it will eventually wear out and break


Competitor #3:
TAPE: 'We have a tape drive we bought last year for £x, and it backs up 'y' Gb'

Yes, it will do. But to back up with tape, PROPERLY, involves a tedious, rigorous, routine with lots of failure points. It takes time and effort, on a daily basis, with meticulous attention to detail. Anything less, and you could be exposed,in a big way.

COMMON OBJECTIONS:

'Its expensive'

Really? Compared to what?

This is not an option that will be cheaper than tape - but have you quantified how much time you spend on doing tape backups? And how you could better use that time?

Can you quantify how much business you would lose if you had no computer data for a week? A month?

Can you quantify the impact on your business if your data was lost, forever?

Would your business survive?

'We store our tapes in a fireproof safe'

Fire-PROOF or fire-RESISTANT? Most safes would delay combustion of their contents for a set period.. But the heat generated by a fire would melt the tapes, rendering them useless. And even if they weren't destroyed, a fire may well render a building unsafe, and you would not be permitted access to retrieve them.

'You could see my data if we backed up using Databax'

No - the client encrypts the data using a code they select, and which we can never gain access to. Databax personnel can never 'see' client data.

'We've got loads of data - it would cost us a fortune'

No - you can back up a few key files with us, or all the data you posess. And you can change this on a day to day basis if you want to.


'Sounds like a lot of messing with my computers'

Absolutely not - we can install the software remotely for our clients, using a secure system called LogMeIn. And once the service is installed, it is completely automated - no manual intervention is needed, and we monitor the backups to ensure any problems are dealt with proactively. Backup hassle is totally eliminated - forever.

'Sounds great - I'll mention it to my IT guy'

This may well generate a negative reaction - a service like ours can highlight exposures in a current backup strategy, and people can be defensive if they think they are about to get into trouble for not doing their job properly - a natural reaction.
